Barry and Rick recently returned from a valuable trip to the UK, where they attended two leading financial planning conferences focused on the future of advice.

The first, The Future of Financial Planning is Still Human, explored how AI is reshaping the profession. A key takeaway from Brett Davidson was how firms can use technology to better serve clients. The real opportunity lies in reducing friction and freeing up time. The firms that succeed will be those that use AI to streamline work and spend more time delivering insight and advice.

The second conference, Advisor 3.0, was significantly larger and brought together financial planners from around the world. There were a number of well-known speakers and authors, and a strong focus on how advice firms can evolve in an increasingly AI enabled world. A highlight was the opportunity to meet and chat with Morgan Housel, author of The Psychology of Money.

The conference created a great environment for sharing ideas and learning from peers across different markets. Once again, AI featured prominently, but the message remained consistent. Technology should enhance the service clients receive, not replace the relationship at the centre of advice.

Overall, the trip was a tremendous success. It provided valuable insights, fresh perspectives and the opportunity to connect with some of the best thinkers in the profession.

Despite the eye watering cost of a pint of beer, the experience was thoroughly worthwhile.

The clear conclusion is that the future of financial planning lies in combining technology with strong human relationships to deliver better client outcomes.
